1.
Based on your reflections, and on a scale of
1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical
wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?
2.
Develop a goal for yourself in each area
(physical, spiritual, psychological).
3.
What activities or exercise can you implement
in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?
Physical well-being
Currently
my muscles are tense and sore from stress and a feeling of being overwhelmed
right now. Exercising has been helping
to release some of the stress and make me feel better about my body. My body is not the weight that I wish it
would be, but I am trying to accept and love it the way it is. My goal for this area is to love my body more
the way it is. I need to stop looking
for faults when I look into a mirror and instead see a beautiful woman. Whenever I see myself in a mirror I need to
find one thing I love about my body.
Spiritual well-being
I
am spiritual but not religious. I
believe in a higher power and that that higher power is a loving and supportive
one. My goal is to feel comfortable
telling others about my beliefs, without feeling judged because I am not
Christian. I can start by telling my
boyfriend what I believe. I have told
him to some extent, but not everything.
If I can feel comfortable telling someone close to me, then maybe I can
tell others.
Psychological well-being
I
try to think as positive as I can throughout a day. It is a work in progress. I can sometimes feel overwhelmed and
stressed, as I currently do. I think my
goal should be to meditate, even if it’s only for five minutes a day. I could think of a different positive
affirmation that I want to work on for that week, and meditate on it.

Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of
the Century. To hear this exercise, click here. Describe your experience. (What it
beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)
I had a hard time keeping
my mind focused on what he was saying. I
usually have that problem though with these kinds of exercises unless it is something
really interesting to focus on. The thought
of beams of light shooting out of my body was weird for me to imagine. I like the affirmations (I feel grounded, I
chose to love, etc.). My goal for the
day (that he said to make) was to relax.
I feel that I don’t let myself just enjoy my day without filling it with
business. Even though I had to keep
redirecting my mind back to what he was saying, it did work to help me to
relax. I think if I did it a couple
times, each time it would get easier.
My physical health is about an 8. My spiritual health is about a 7 and my psycological health is about a 6.
ReplyDeleteI also found it a little difficult to focus on the Crime of the Century exercise. It is hard for me to visualize all of the colors that he was trying to relay. I am trying to also find some time through out the week; about 15 minutes; for some relaxation. I find music to be very relaxing to me, it just gives me that sense of peace and "calming sensation". I don't know why, but it always has! :) I feel pretty good about my physical and spiritual health at this point, but I still have goals set for myself. I think it is important to try and just have some goals set to keep myself motivated and to increase my self-confidence. I have been running with one of my girlfriends for about 2 1/2 months, and I just feel better about myself! I am not doing it to run a marathon..LOL I just want to do it for exercise and to feel good! :)

I also had difficulties focusing on the exercise, but I think it is because I am under so much stress right now and it is very hard not to think about things that are going on in peoples life everyday. Jean St.John
ReplyDeleteThe beams of light shooting out of the body is interesting and takes some getting use to, but it really does take your focus and attention in another direction and helps to free up the chattering in my mind. I think that for many of that are not use to using these relaxation techniques it does take some practice and redirecting of our mind back to what we are hearing and trying to do. I am glad that you found the exercise helpful and I do think it will get easier the more you practice it.

Hi Nikki,
ReplyDeleteI found it interesting what you said about the light shooting out in the exercise as that is the point where I lost concentration...the concept just seemed strange to me as well. I tend to visualize an encompassing warm healing light in my visualization. As it was described in the exercise, I thought of being shot full of holes..not the intent, I'm sure!
I can also relate to your feelings of discomfort in expressing your religion. I kept my beliefs to myself for many years for the same reason. "Everyone" seemed to be church-going Christians or Athiests with little in between. My suggestion (since I'm old and wise..ha ha) would be to be proud of your own beliefs and you will be drawn to others who feel the same way. I eventually found a whole congregation of people that believe in the non-denominational, non-restrictive, universal approach to spirituality. It took me a while, but times are changing and the holistic approach is becoming much more mainstream. Good luck!

Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI am in the same boat with you regarding exercise, stress and trying to have a positive outlook on things throughout each day. Stress is a major player in creating trouble in our lives and it's very important to find ways to reduce and cope with the stress that comes. Exercise, meditation, good nutrition, support and a good cry every once in a while do wonders for stress reduction. You sound like you've found some ways to reduce yours. Good luck!
It can be tough, also, to share you personal beliefs with others. There is a vulnerability that comes from opening yourself up to others. I'm glad you shared a bit here. I hope you find the blessings that are waiting for you each new day.
